About EquityDue
EquityDue is an independent, single-purpose reference site about the tax mechanics of equity compensation in the United States — RSUs, ESPPs, sell-to-cover elections, bonuses, and the estimated payments that often follow them.
Why this site exists
Equity compensation creates a predictable and widely misunderstood problem: supplemental wages such as RSU vests are typically withheld at a flat 22% federal rate, while the people receiving them often sit in the 32%, 35%, or 37% brackets. The result is a tax bill that arrives months after the income did. General-purpose financial media rarely covers this mechanic in usable detail, and the information that does exist is scattered across IRS publications, state revenue department pages, and payroll documentation.
EquityDue gathers that material into one place: working calculators with their formulas printed on the page, state-by-state withholding tables compiled from primary sources, and plain-language guides connecting the two.
Editorial principles
- Show the math. Every calculator publishes its formula as plain text, defines each variable with units, and walks through a worked example with real numbers. Nothing is a black box.
- Primary sources only. Rates and thresholds are taken from IRS publications and state revenue departments, not from other websites. Each table links its sources and states its verified-as-of date.
- No advice. This site explains how the rules work in general. It does not know your situation and does not tell you what to do. Decisions with tax consequences belong with a qualified professional.
- Dated, maintained data. Tax figures change. Tables carry explicit dates and are reviewed on the schedule described on the methodology page.
